Almanzo and Royal Antler

Posted by Chris Skogen On August - 27 - 2012

How does a man move and shape a culture? Our love of storytelling compelled us to find out, so we dug into the story of the Almanzo 100 gravel road race-the granddaddy of them all. We found that a single man’s passion for community has manifested itself in a bike race. The challenge: to race 100 miles of gravel roads without assistance or outside support. Pain and suffering exist temporarily, but the satisfaction of a battle won will empower these racers the rest of their lives. Call it a movement if you’d like but please don’t call it a fad. Gravel racing is here to stay.

A second sample post to see how everything will look and to see how far the body of text will move over toward the photo. I think it's working rather well, I'm just not certain as to the final layout.

I drove the entire course today. The whole course looked really good. There are a lot of long straight stretches with the only real hills stuck at the beginning and a few at the end. I did notice that there was a lot of fresh gravel on some of the roads, but I would imagine this might be packed down by race day. I put the map (via routeslip) at a link to the right. You'll notice 100.43 miles (give or take a couple) and nearly 2000ft of climbing. It should be a great day. Also, Charlie from University Cycles in Mankato has been kind enough to let us finish at his shop up by the campus, so thanks to Charlie. Also I noticed there was a Green Mill right next door so I am sure that a beer or two might be in order come finishin' time. If anybody has questions let me know [email protected]
